Wildcard lookup with text and numbers

I am trying to lookup a value that mixed text and numbers in another column that has multiple data in a cell and then return the date in the following column. see example below

A B
1dog1cat formula should return 1/1/2018



A B
1cat2dogs 4/1/2018
Birds, 2cats, 4fish, 1dog1cat 1/1/2018
2dogs 3/1/2018


I have tried index match using "*"&A1&"*" but get an error. thinking because it has a combination of text and numbers? anyone have a solution
