Match dates and cell text words in different worksheets and return data

    Hi,

Maybe my request is too long!

In short - can your help a cell from one worksheet to another if you don’t know what column it will show up in??

In my excel file I would like to link a few spreadsheets automatically. On my worksheet called "spread" I'd like for cell F42 to link to the worksheet called "Quarterly IS" in cell F42. So somehow it should also read the column header in "spread" in cell "F12" for the word revenue and match to the worksheet "Quarterly IS" A9 (which should read Revenue).

Now, I"d like for the formula to look up the dates and match the date on the spreadsheet called "spread" in cell C42 to the date in the spreadsheet called "Quarterly IS" that would be found in cell B6. Unfortunately, B6 is part of an array that is dependent on an outside program so it is showing up as #Name but on my end it will show a date. this date in B6 will change for every company because its cell referencing a particular company. So I don't just want to link the two worksheets. I need some kind of smart look up function. I would also like the formula to have an is error formula (or whatever works best) built in so if that date isn't found the cell is left blank.

I will have to do this linking for a lot of different cells. So I need a formula that has some flexibility. For instance, I will also need to link the spread formula cell "G42" to read the column header "G12" COGS to match in "Quarterly IS" which can also read COGS (says the full name now - cost of goods sold - but I can relabel) and then should also match the dates.

    Thank you!
