    Maintenace Forecast Calendar

    Hello all,

My vehicle fleet is managed by an 3rd party application. I run a report on there, export the results to excel, copy and paste values into this spreadsheet.

My question is: Why does my formulas not identify the coppied data as dates?

On my Monthly Forecast Tab, Collumn N is supposed to extract all the dates that fall within each month, but it doesn't... If I type dates in manually, then it works, but not with the pasted in data from my reports...

Please see attached spreadsheet for clarification...

    Please Help

I'll take a guess that the exported data is a .CSV file and that can cause problems with this type of operation.

If you look at the dates in column F on the 'James' sheet you'll notice they're all over to the left of the column even with no left justification set for that range.
That means Excel is looking at the values as text rather than dates. This is a known issue when importing from CSV files.

Simple fix for it, highlight column F, select "Data / Text to Columns / Delimited / Finish" and it will turn all your text dates into proper dates and everything will work.

A slight inconvenience still, but better than having to retype them all... And you could write some VBA to import the data and take care of all that for you automatically.
