    does the below work for you? not immediately clear what the results should be....

    =IFERROR(LEFT($A1,FIND("'",$A1)-1),0)+IFERROR(SUBSTITUTE(REPLACE($A1,1,IFERROR(FIND("'",$A1),0),""),CHAR(34),"")/12,0)
    copied down

    where A1 holds the strings -- above returning decimal (feet)

    This works great for this Format 9' 3 1/4". However, I need it to look at all 3 formats and return the proper value based on the format.

    8 5/8" (Inch format)

    10' (Whole number in Ft)

    I am sorry, it works perfectly. I had some empty cells and thought it did not populate. Thank you so much for all of your help. This is a huge help.

    Re: Convert this fraction 9' 3 1/4" and others like it to a decimal

    edit: ignore -- posts crossed...

    for the three strings provided the calc would return results as follows:

    8 5/8" --> 0.71875
    10' --> 10
    9' 3 1/4" --> 9.270833

    can you advise what the correct results are for the first two if not the above?
