    Convert fraction to a decimal

Would someone help me convert a fraction to a decimal number in a separate column. We sell ad sizes that are either:
We sell ads in a monthly magazine. We sell ad sizes that are either:

    Full or full = 1
    1/2 = 0.5
    1/4 = 0.25
    1/8 = 0.125
    Out or out = 0

What I would like to know is how
to convert the fraction to a
    decimal in a separate column
and then I can sum the decimals column at the end.

    Thank you.Convert fraction to a decimal.xls

Richard, where is the formula or macro, if that is what it is called, that does the conversion? Is it hidden somewhere? I want to learn how you did it.

Re: Convert fraction to a decimal

I see the table now. But I don't want the table placed in the sheet because I have many other columns that I did not include in the sample.

Is there a way to say, for example, if(Row#= full or Full Row return 1.00, 1/2 Return .500, 1/4 Return .250, 1/8 Return .125, out or Out Return .000)?
    Something like that?

    Hi,

Just Cut the whole table and paste it to another sheet (which you can hide if you don't want to see it)

Why do you want to use many IF statements?
The VLOOKUP is the simplest and best way to go. Just make sure that whatever unique values you have for your Ad Size in column A, that you have that value in the first column of the VLOOKUP table. Personally I'd remove the middle column of the table which just contains '=' signs and change the ,3 in the VLOOKUP formula to ,2.

I'm following you. But actually the unique value is not in Column A but Column C, preceded by Advertiser name and Sales rep

Tinkered with your suggestion and moved the table way off to the side but didn't work. Here is the actual sheet. Can you do it w this sheet please.

Re: Convert fraction to a decimal

There isn't a need to remove the workbooks unless there is some type of data sensitivity reason, plus, maybe this can help somebody else with the same type of issue.

Re: Convert fraction to a decimal

This is a different question but related to the same sample worksheet. If one of our advertisers is out that month and I either 1. want to create a sub-worksheet of only active advertiser or 2. send to printer only those active advertisers, how might I do that? My goal is to print out only a listing of active advertisers. Thank you.

Please disregard the above. I simply set a filter to exclude "out" and it printed all the remaining rows. Thanks for all your help.
