Sumif function using *wildcard for number criteria

Hi everyone, this is really annoying me! It works fine for text data but is returning a zero value for numbers.
I have a list of invoices e.g. 11234, 11456, 12455, 12433
I want to sum the amounts for all invoices starting in 11

My formula looks like this... =SUMIFS(D2:D15,A2:A15,"11*)
The range to sum is D2:D15
The criteria range is A2:A15
The search is "11*"

I would love the solution! Thanks!

The wildcard is for text strings only I'm afraid.

Are the invoice numbers always 5 digits?
If so you could use this
