Sum values based on criteria in another column and sheet in Excel

Hi there,

Am a newbie to this site so please forgive me if protocols are not followed stringently.

As per the attached file, I am attempting to apply a formula that sum values by subcategory in sheet1 using a formula input into column B of sheet2. I have tried to make the formula work but have struggled

sheet1 data sheet

sheet2 column A - Subcategory with duplicates removed
sheet2 column B - Formula required to total the values for each subcategory listed on sheet1

Please let me know if there is any further information required to help with this problem.

Change the formula in B2 of Sheet2 to this:

=SUMIF(sheet1!$C:$C,A2,sheet1!$D:$D)

then copy down.
