Heya - somewhere along the lines I have added a external link that I now want to remove as I no longer have this file. It doesnt seem to affect my spreadsheet, its just annoying having to click 'ignore' when i first open the spreadsheet and the warning comes up.

I want to find which cell has the link, and I have tried using the Find feature searching for ".xl" and[*], but nothing comes up on these searches.

I have also just tried breaking the link by going to the data tab and 'edit links'.

Can someone give me a different solution?

Check your data validation, conditional formats and named ranges for references to external files.

Thanks scott, what do you mean by named ranges?

Not sure what version of excel you have but I have 2010.

in the formulas menu I would press a button that says 'name manager'
or press ctrl + F3

that should bring up a window and look to see if any entries have an external link in them. if so press delete.
