Formatting All Cells Within a Column Based On Day of Week in A1 Row

    Hey Everybody,

I am trying to format an employee attendance sheet so that all columns that fall on a weekend are highlighted. I have attached a sample worksheet with name removed. As you can see, the first columns that I'd like highlighted would be for Jan 4th-5th. Normally, I wouldn't mind manually highlighting these as we progress through the year, but it'd be nice to have the conditional formatting automated in the event that I add new employees, etc. If anybody wouldn't mind helping me out with this one, I'd appreciate it!

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the forum.

You can use this as a conditional formatting rule:

    =WEEKDAY(E$1,16)<3

It returns TRUE for Saturdays and Sundays.

Thank you so much for your reply and the attachment. However, how do I modify the formula so that the entire column is selected, and not just where my employee list ends?

    Thanks again

Simply adjust the Applies To range in the CF rule dialog.

Your conditional formatting should be =WEEKDAY(start date,2)>5

The template will show you how to set up the schedule to use the CF.
