    Data Validation Abbreviation

    Newbie here.

    I'm trying to create a drop down list, tied to an image location on my computer.

    I've successfully created a drop down list with a path to the image (C:\Users\username\Documents\PRESENTATION\LINKS), but when I click the drop down menu, the path is too long to see what the user will be selecting.

    See attached "test" file for example -

    the dropdown list reads -
    'C:\Users\username\Documents\PRESENTATION\LINKS\image-1.jpg
    'C:\Users\username\Documents\PRESENTATION\LINKS\image-2.jpg

    when what I want to show is just -
    'image-1
    'image-2

    Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated.

    Not sure that I get to the bottom of what you request, but maybe if you go to Insert-->Object-->Create from File-->put your path on the browse line ('C:\Users\username\Documents\PRESENTATION\LINKS-1) ---->display as icon--->change Icon (name it "Image1" )

    Or Isert--->Hyperlink---> Text to display = Image1

    My guess is that Excel DV doesn't like drop-down lists dependent on a drive location. If you could use object linking to embed your image files and have those images report to a range of cells within the workbook, it'd probably work, but the images would have to reside in the same file. Hope it helps.
