    month abbreviation using TODAY()

    Hi there,

    I've inserted the current date into an excel form using the TODAY() function.
    I also need to provide the form in French, and when I change the language for the cell with the TODAY() function, it automatically abbreviates the month. For example, today's date appears as "13 nov. 2008" rather than "13 novembre 2008" as I would like it to appear.

    Any ideas on how to change this?

    Thanks!

    That changed the appearance, but also changed it back into English. I don't want the whole spreadsheet to be in French, just the date. Any ideas?

    Hi daddylonglegs,

    Is there a source / list where these custom codes (the [$-40C] part) are available? It would be useful to know of such a source!

    Hi,

    It's not that far away

    Put your date in A1, format cell and in "Locale (location)" drop-down select French (Canada), select the bottom one on the list, then Custom format and add an extra "m"
