Which version of Excel are you using? You may need to update your forum profile.

Where have you mocked up what you want to see? I cannot see anywhere where column lengths vary ...

OK - I am really sorry, but I am not really clear on the problem. Your ranking formulae seem fine - what am I missing? What is it about column lengths that concerns you? Why not just convert the ranges to dynamic tables?

Re: Need a formula to rank data within a column

    Hi

    the formula are fine

when I update my data file, the length of each race differs so have to changes all the references

I wanted to know if a formula can be used so that it changes the references for the cells based on the number of rows and between two separate sets of data

Some races have 8 entries some eleven and some upto fourteen

    regards

    Raj

Re: Need a formula to rank data within a column

What do you mean? You don't copy and paste. Just select the original table in its entirety, including your additional columns (do each table in turn) and go Insert > Table. That's it - then the formulae will grow as you add rows.
