Mixed text formatting in one cell

I am using CONCAT to assemble academic citations - basically just joining together a number of text cells, ending up with another text cell. Some of the text is italicized. The format for that particular cell is fine. However when the contents are included in the CONCAT, the formatting disappears.
It is possible to manually copy the result and paste values into another cell, and then format the relevant part of the text. However, I wondered if it were possible to carry over the formatting of the original cell as part of the CONCAT?
See attachment for what I mean. Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.

You have already worked it out, I am afraid - you cannot format via a formula, so it's going to have to be copy as values and then post-format. Sorry. i don't know if there's a way with VBA - shall AImove the thread for you?

Hi - thanks for your speedy reply! I don't really want to bother with VBA; it's not much hassle to do the formatting manually. It would just have been more elegant automatically!

Yep, but not possible, unfortunately, so if that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED.
