    Counting multiple criteria

    Hi,

    Can somebody tell me what's wrong with the formula I'm trying to use: =COUNTIFS(AG2:AG46,">=95"," [BU2:BU46]",">=95"," [BA2:BA46]","=EXS"," [BA2:BA46]","=GDS")

    I can't seem to get my head around it.

    I'm trying to count how many in the range AG2:AG46 and BU2:BU46 have scored = to or more than 95 and also count the amount of EXS and GDS in BA2:BA46

    Thanks

    Re: Counting multiple criteria

    Firstly, you don't need the square brackets.

    Secondly, the formula would need all four criteria to be met to return a count - I don't think that's what you want. You need to do each count separately.

    Thirdly, your school will not be happy if they find out that you shared a workbook full of pupil names on a public forum ... I have removed it for you.

    Re: Counting multiple criteria

    ?? A guess without a sample sheet and expected answers...

    =SUM(COUNTIFS(AG2:AG46,">=95",BU2:BU46,">=95",BA2:BA46,{"EXS","GDS"}))

    Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

    You will know the array is active when you see curly brackets { } - or "curly braces" for those of you in the USA, or "flower brackets" for those of you in India - appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

    Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...

    The sheet contained false names (changed a few around and made up surnames) and I omitted any information regarding school location, which would therefore make the names meaningless but thank you anyway.

    I'll try your suggestions.

    Thanks
