help for formula to count number of reporting months which fall between certain dates

hi

i need help to for a formula (possiblity an if statement) or maybe there is a better way to do it to count the number of reporting months which fall between 2 specific dates. in the example attached the 2 specific dates are in columns A and B and always begin on the 1st of the month

the reporting start date and end date is looking at the total month, not just up to the 1st. so for example line 3, 1/1/20 to 1/10/20 is to treat as 10 months (jan to october)

The formula needed is to calculate the numbers in column G, the number of reporting periods which fall between the start date and end dates.

all the dates will always begin with a 1st on the month.

however I also need something similar however that will work for quarters, however if the whole reporting quarter has not happened then it needs to populate with completed reporting quarters

Try to get start date with max of 2 start date, end date with min of 2 end date, then
