Count the numbers and X in all calums

I am not sure if this solution should be one or two formulas but I am ok with two.
I have a small spead sheet 17 column, each column has 3 list.
The list are numbers and X. I would like to count the numbers and the X. given 2 different total.
    Can someone help please.

Re: Count the numbers and X in all calums

I am not good at excel. I cant seem to copy the page because all those numbers is calculated from a different page. I will do it this way. The first column has 3 entry from top to bottom 3,x,1. Second column 6,x,x. Third column 9,8,7. That goes on for 17 column from seft to right.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Count the numbers and X in all calums

    =COUNT( A1:Q20)
Will count the numbers in the range of 17 columns A to Q and 20 rows
    =COUNTIF( A1:Q20 , "X" ) will count the X's in that range

see attached , if i have understood

    Hi there.

A picture is worth 1,000 words. An Excel sheet is worth 1,000 non-editable pictures.

Please read the yellow banner about sample worksheets, at the top of the screen. Act on its guidelines and post a SMALL sample sheet complete with an explanation and some expected results.

Re: Count the numbers and X in all calums

As Glenn stated a sample spreadsheet would help - If count() returned 0 , then they are not numbers
    then perhaps
    =COUNTIF(A1:Q20,"<>"&"X")

so we count anything thats NOT an X

    But will include blank cells

    to ignore blank cells
    =COUNTIFS(A1:Q20,"<>"&"X",A1:Q20,"<>")

    see attached sample

    =sumproduct(--isnumber(--$a$1:$c$3))

Re: Count the numbers and X in all calums

Ok I manage to get a picture.

What I am trying to do is to find a formula that will count the X and another formula that will count the numbers in the bottom part of this sheet. I gave a sample in an excel file. Dont worry about anything else just the bottom part.

The formula =COUNTIF( A1:Q20 , "X" ) works fine for the X part , now all I need not is to count the cells that has the numbers.

    Hope that helps.
