    Assigning (Randomly) Mentors and Mentees

    Hi

I have attached a file, has two tabs Mentors and Mentees. Each Mentee needs to be assigned a Mentor that they share a common faculty with.

In the case where the Mentee only has one faculty they must have that matching mentor, else the mentor needs only one of the mentees faculties.

Can this be done with some randomness such that mentors have a even (ish) amount of mentees?

Looking for a formula in column F of the mentee tab.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Try to manual input more expected results for mentees those have got more than 1 faculty (i.e, cell F2,F3,...)

    Thanks for the reply.

I was hoping to avoid a manual input!

Sure! No one wish to manual input!
But we need to know what is your expected result, to find out what formula to get it.

Yep, for sure, but I don't have an expected output for these with >1 faculty.

It's easy enough to say if mentee only has one faculty assign that mentor. But happy for others to have any of the potential mentors, so the output is variable. Mentee in A2 can be assigned to F2 either Shannon (Religious Education) or Maryanne (Languages) doesn't matter!

Hope that makes sense.. Thx for your patience

What if first 5 Mentees all had "Religious Education" (Shannon)?
    Is it problem?

If they only had 1 faculty they must have Shannon

but if they have a 2nd / 3rd faculty they can have someone different.

Re: Assigning (Randomly) Mentors and Mentees

I have set up a mentor assignment in "Mentees Tab" column G and H.

G is a completely random Assignment
H Assigns the mentees with a preference if they are in one faculty.

Wanted to get a more uniform distribution in "Mentor Tab" column C and D.

    This new sheet attached.

I don't think there's much difference between my two assignments. The real data set has 300 Mentees so at this stage I will use this as a first run and address inequities manually.

    Happy for additional input.
