Unhappy Output Corresponding Data from a Dataset

    Hello!

I am trying to figure out how to get a data term in one cell to correspond to a value in another data set. For example: if I had a business selling flowers (I don't actually), and I wanted a certain cell to output the cost of a specific flower if I type in that flower type (ex. 'Rose') what formula would I use? I want to be able to have a tab that lists the different flower types and their corresponding costs. I also want a tab that lists the customers, the item they purchased, the corresponding cost of the item, quantity of the item purchased, and the total. I can't figure out how to get excel to automatically load the cost of the item type based on the cost list in the other tab. I've attached a general example. I want column E in the Sales tab to correspond to the cost per flower type in the Cost tab.

Any thoughts or ideas? Please let me know if you need clarification; I know that was a bit confusing

    Thank you!

    Abbey

    Hi there.

A picture is worth 1,000 words. An Excel sheet is worth 1,000 non-editable pictures.

Please read the yellow banner about sample worksheets, at the top of the screen. Act on its guidelines and post a SMALL sample sheet complete with an explanation and some expected results.

Try pasting the following into cell E2 and then dragging the fill handle down: =INDEX(Costs!B$2:B$5,MATCH(D2,Costs!A$2:A$5,0))
