Hi all.
Quick background on my situation: I'm a high school Special Education teacher, but my school uses Google Suite for a lot of our day-to-day paperwork, so that means a LOT of Google Sheets, and I've found that most (if not all) Excel formulas or solutions will work in Google Sheets. My boss recently updated the way we're supposed to submit our weekly caseload sheet, which includes information on a student's enrollment date, how many credits (units) they have completed, and other pertinent data about their SpEd file. The new caseload template includes a place for us to track a student's estimated graduation date (we're a year-round independent study school, so not everyone graduates in June), which we'll be using as part of our district goals to show progress for each student.
Now, I can go into our student database and quickly pull the information on when the student will graduate, but I was wondering if there's a way to sort of automate this and do it with a formula instead of having to manually update multiple columns of data every single week. Attached is a sample sheet with some sample students (all confidential data has been scrubbed, of course).
Column G: This is how many credits the students started with on July 1st (the start of our school year).
Column H: This is how many units they've completed since the start of the school year.
Column I: This is the student's current grade level (calculated based on Column H)
Column J: This is the estimated graduation date.
Our students need 230 units to graduate. Is there a way that I can calculate the Estimated Graduation Date from that? Since we have a unit requirement of no less than 4 units per month, I originally though of using the following formula and then formatting the result into a custom date format:
However, when I try that for the student in Line 2, I get a date of 01/01/1900, which doesn't match our projections for this student (April 2024). I've tried a few different searches, but I haven't quite been able to find anything close to what I'm looking for. So, is there any chance that I can do what I'm asking? Or am I stuck with manually updating multiple columns every week? Please Login or Register to view this content.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
