CF: I want to highlight D14 if the cell value is less than the cell value of B14

I am not necessarily a newby but not familiar with conditional formatting, have searched but cant find an answer.
I have 2 columns for my first aid column 1 lets say b14 has a value of the amount of items eg #15 wound dressing 2 and D14 shows how many are left 1 I want to highlight D14 if the cell value is less than the cell value of B14.
There are 30 plus cells in the column and most numbers are different as with column D so do I need to format each cell or can I format column D to highlight if the number is less than the corresponding cell from column b

    Re: Conditional formatting

You can highlight Column D, and then go to Conditional Formatting and go to "Manage Rules". select "Use a formula to determine cell format" and type in the formula:

    =$D1<B1
Then click on Format and format it how you want.

    Thanks Gregb11,
This did not work some cells highlighted with larger numbers, some didn't highlight at all

    Re: Conditional formatting

Maybe some of your numbers are actually text values which look like numbers, If you attach a sample workbook by following the guidelines in the yellow banner at the top of the screen, then we can check it out for you.

    Hope this helps.
