    Excel Division Question

I added an attachment. Hopefully I did it correctly. The AWOT cell Q2 is what I am looking for. I would like to divide the cell O2 by the number of rows (in this example 35) but I would like the formula to update as I continue to add new row (36,37,38, etc.).

Hopefully this is more clear now.

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hello All,
Can anyone tell me how to create a formula that will divide an individual cell by the total number of rows on a sheet? I would like it to automatically recognize when new rows are added and adjust the division formula total accordingly? Context for the questions is each row represents a work order. Each row has a column with an invoice total. There is a cell that calculates the total sum of the column with the work order totals. I am wanting to know what the average total of each work order is.
    Thanks for you help,
    Brian

    Re: Excel Division Question

If your data are in A2:A10, =AVERAGE(A2:A10)

If not please read the yellow banner (top) and post a sample sheet WITH expected results calculated manually.

Your title is also a bit weak. As you're new, I'll change it for you... once I understand what you want!!

A GOOD thread title is the sort of thing you would use as a search term on Google*. Your chosen title would produce a squillion useless hits. In future, please take a bit more time to think of a descriptive title that would be "Google-friendly". Many people search the forum answers looking for help and your very general title wouldn't help them at all.

    Re: Excel Division Question

I suppose the formula should actually be the total rows - 1 for the the column titles for a better average work order revenue total.

    Yes, it should.

    =O2/COUNTA(L:L)-1
