PLEASE HELP EXAM MONday AND IM LOST

Really need help here my exam is Monday and my professor is an old-school totalitarian dictator who refuses to help us even with practice problems. he won't even tell us what formula to use and I'm pretty new to excel so I'm not sure if its a nested if or index match or what. we're given 2 different pay rates s1 and s2 in a chart on the document sheet. The question is to calculate the base pay in the base pay column of the buds worksheet. s1 can work max 4 hours so basically the base pay would be either hours worked under 4 hours x pay rate or 4 hours times pay rate if there are more than 4 total hours worked. S2 can only work max 8 hours so s2 would be hours under 8 x pay rate or 8 hours times pay rate if the hours total is over 8.

To be clear this is not a graded assignment this is practice for an exam that I desperately need to pass any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Re: PLEASE HELP EXAM MON ! if or index match to populate a column with a base pay calculat

Nothing is more frustrating than to be working on homework and to get stuck. Without guidance, you might have no hope of finishing the assignment before the deadline. The Internet can be a big help in that respect, but without learning how to get the right answer, asking others to solve your homework questions for you simply becomes a downward spiral (and it's cheating).

We do not want to contribute to you cheating yourself out of your education, but we also acknowledge that seeking assistance to learn a concept is a legitimate request.

If you are genuinely interested in receiving help in the form of tutoring or coaching, then please rephrase the title of your original post to clearly indicate you are seeking coaching or tutoring help. Any forum members (who are willing to assist as a tutor) will modify their responses accordingly to facilitate your learning. Tutors don't tell you the answers, they help you figure it out for yourself; so don't expect answers, expect suggestions, or just plain hints. Also, be specific in describing the function/formula or technique you trying to learn, and tell us what you have attempted so far. Otherwise, expect your plea for homework answers to be ignored.

To be clear this is not a marked assignment to be handed in so no asking for help with one column of it is not cheating and I wish I could tell you what the function or formula I'm trying to learn is. I said in the description I'm pretty sure it's nested ifs or index max but I'm not entirely sure this is why I'm seeking help. I tried for 5 straight hours to figure out one column , I watched videos and re went over all the material my prof provided me and I still can't get it. I'm not asking someone to fully finish my homework I need guidance on one column so I can have a hope of passing my exam on monday

Look at VLOOKUP and MAX functions.

Re: PLEASE HELP EXAM MONday AND IM LOST

Yes Im with John but min could also be an option basic pay is the minimum of the hours worked or the maximum hours per day multiplied by the base rate
You find the maximum hours by a vlookup

overtime pay is the maximum of the hours worked -maximum hours and 0 so if they have not worked any overtime, hours worked-maximum hours is negative, so the maximum is the 0. this is multiplied by the overtime wage rate x maximum base pay

All the values from the documentation table are returned by vlookups.

Hopefully that is a heavy prompt to send you in the right direction
