Need desperate help to figure out the IF formula to sort values from Adjustments into debit & credit columns of the Adjusted Balances.
Need desperate help to figure out the IF formula to sort values from Adjustments into debit & credit columns of the Adjusted Balances.
I'm not sure exactly what you want (it would have helped if you had shown manually what you are expecting), but try this formula in N4:
=SUMIFS($D4:$K4,$D$3:$K$3,N$3)
Copy into M4, then copy both formulae down as required.
Hope this helps.

Here is an example of what I need it to look like. The formula must know to calculate the adjustment and place it in the correct debit or credit column. There must not be a credit and a debit in the same row. Unfortunately the formula posted above does not place the adjusted number into the correct column.
The attachment is not valid. To attach a sample Excel workbook, you should follow the instructions in the yellow banner at the top of the screen. Do not try to use the paperclip icon, as it does not work on this forum.

Apologies I am new to this site. I have attached the workbook properly this time I think.
It is still not clear what you want to achieve, as you seem to have attached the same workbook as in Post #1.
Manually place the values in the cells where you want the formula to go, and give them a yellow background so it is clear how you have arrived at those values.
Hope this helps.

I have highlighted the boxes and placed arrows with instructions in caps lock for ease of access. I need the unadjusted balance to add the debit or credit in the adjustments column, and place the correct balance in the debit or credit columns under adjusted balances. For example: Lets say there is 500,000 Cr in unadjusted balances, and a 600,000 Dr adjustment. I need the IF formula to know that the answer will be a 100,000 Dr balance in the Adjusted Balances column and automatically place the number in the correct Dr or Cr column. Does that make sense?
