Messy@best Value from selected drop down to auto drive a filter on another worksheet (more

Ok - I'd like to select a value from a data validation drop down box, and then have that value drive a filtered view in another worksheet (same workbook) from which to create additional data valuation drop downs.

For kicks, I populated my example with NHL data.

Example (see attached). "Today's Players" tab shows 2 hockey teams, and I'd like to select the starting line for each position. I select "DAL" from the pull down menu in A2, and PHI in E2.

The boxes below DAL should include a list of players on the DAL team (for data validation). Same for PHI.

For that, I have the "players" tab, which includes all active plyers in the league (col A) and the team they play on.

I have no idea how to have the selection of DAL on todayplayers!a2 drive the filter on players tab to create the list for the data validation to use for the remaining players.

Did you get that? Kinda involved.....

I'd appreciate any help - Thanks!

This site/tutorial goes through Dependent Data Validation lists quite well...

thanks for the link -interesting, but not a great solution for my specific issue (unless I missed something).

In my hockey example, the worksheet with the players names is fairly large. The real life example is a spreadsheet that is thousands of rows long. Typing in the information to create the lists is a viable option. That's why i was hoping for a solution to "auto - filtering" if that's even a thing?

    Perhaps this will help.
    1. Sort the Players sheet by team (A to Z)
    2. Use the following as the source for the data validation for DAL:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    3. Similar formula for PHI but referencing cell E2 instead of A2.
Note that if it is at all possible I would suggest not using the Merge & Center feature and instead change the width of the columns.
