Joining 2 formulas to produce a count

    Hi,

In the attached spreadsheet, I am trying to create a formula which counts the number of rows that have the text YES in column B and ACTIVE in column C

The formula for counting the number of times 'Yes' appears is =COUNT(IF(B:B="Yes",1,""))
The formula for counting the number of times 'Active' appears is =COUNT(IF(C:C="Active",1,""))

I am struggling to join the above formulas so that I have a count if there is both the text 'Yes' and 'Active' appear.

    This?

    =COUNTIFS(B:B,"Yes",C:C,"Active")

Thank you AliGW. That worked perfect.

How would the formula be adjusted if I wanted it to invert the count on column c? meaning perform the count for cells which contain anything other than the word 'Active'?

    Try this:

    =COUNTIFS(B:B,"Yes",C:C,"<>Active")
