I want to better understand the possibilities of AGGREGATE.

    Dear Excel experts,

I'm trying to learn the function AGGREGATE better, but I'm afraid I'm overlooking something basic.
I get #VALUE in three cases while expecting a number.
Am I doing something wrong? Details about the questions can be found in the attached sheet.

The Aggregate function will only accept an array when the 1st argument is 14 or more, for all other options it must be a range.

Oh it's that. That's really helpful to know. I thought I was going crazy.

I can't get that from Microsoft's help info. That happens to me more often.
Is there also a more extensive syntax description?

Fortunately, in that range we have GRAND and SMALL that can often be useful.

You earn 3 times reps from me, but I can only give 1 times. .

Not really sure, but when you use an array you cannot ignore hidden rows, subtotals etc. just errors.

Based on Fluff's initial comment, I also tried to fool Excel into accepting this as a range:

    =AGGREGATE(9,6,INDEX(D:D,SEQUENCE(4)))

    It didn't work either....
