Question Formula to calculate how many people attended 2 named events (from a single list)

Hey - I hope someone can help me with a puzzle.

I have a 2 columns, names and events.
Some events have more than one attendee.
Some people attended more than one event.

    My data shows, for example:

    John attended Event A
    Sarah attended Event A
    John attended Event B
    Sarah attended Event C

I need a future-proof formula to calculate how many people attended two particular events (more events will be added in the future).
So, in the small example above - 1 person attended event A and B in the format

    Event A - Event B - 1

Also bonus points for someone who can help me auto-generate those Event 1 and Event 2 columns!

    Thank you

    C

I'm not sure what is the version 16.65 - we would prefer to know if it's Office 365, or may be Excel 2016, etc.
Anyway, if it's rather new version the following formula shall do:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Two coments about sample file - last row contained "John " not "John".
This trailing space makes the cell contents different than cells above.

All other combinations A/C A/D etc will have count = 1 (As John attended all events, so also attended any pair)

The formula above works fine with any number of events, and any number of people. But again: People and event names have to be exactly the same every time they are used.

Check if the attached file shows result or !Name. If its !name, then you have too old version of excel.

PS before I discovered error in cell A11 I couldn't believe the formula is not working (was not working with John_with_space) so I tested a bit more basic one, but also requiring contemporary excel version:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Hi Kaper

First, many apologies for the errors in the attached file - that must have been VERY annoying. I'm sorry.

Second - thank you so much for the formulas. The first one didn't work, but the second one did.

Also - thanks for the advice you sent over in the DM - all noted.

You have really helped - thank you so much.

    Caroline
