Merge Data on two sheets

I have two sets of data. This would be

Data set 1
Application number Type of application
12356 easy
25689 Hard
23656 easy
23548 easy
89541 Hard
32556 easy
etc

Data set 2 is my master data which has the application numbers and 15 other columns of data but this data does not have Type of application. The number of lines of data amounts to 6000. How can i add the type of application from dataset 1 to dataset 2 by linking to the application number?

It would help if you helped us. Are your data sets all in one sheet, or in two different sheets in the same file, or in two different files? What columns and rows are you using?

You should attach sample Excel workbook(s), by following the details in the yellow banner at the top of the screen.

Bear in mind, also, that "urgent" to you is not necessarily urgent to us.

Apologies for my request not being clear. So i have attached an example of what i am trying to achieve. I can't add the exact data due to content but from the attached if a solution is available i can work on the solution.

The data is all on one sheet but different tabs.

Data set 1 - This amounts to around 6000 application numbers.

Data SET 2 - Are the same application numbers as in data set 1, but could have additional application numbers which won't be on data set 1

Result - What i would like is to identify from Dataset 2 the outcome result linked to the application number and then link to a new column in data set 1 but to the corresponding application number. If no outcome is available then can return an error message.

Is this possible please
