    Sum up the same email

    Hi!

I am completly new to excel so this might be a stupid question and with an easy google search answer.

I want to be able to make a list of email adresses. If I add an email to column A it will be stated in column B with the number of how many times it has been added before.

I want it to look something like the picture attached. If you have a better id? with the same purpose I would be greatfull if you shared it

The reason for my question is following. At my work we sometimes get spam. Everytime we get a spammail we are supposed to put it in a word document and if we get the spammail from a e-mailadress twice we are supposed to report it. But it is anoying to scroll threw and find a matching email adress. It would be much easier if the computer just states how many times it has been added before.

    Best regards Hannes

Re: Sum up the same email

    I get the following error:

Theres a problem with this formula

Not trying to type a formula?
When the first character is equal ("=") or minus ("-") sign, Excel thinks it is a fromula:

    you type: "1 + 1, cell shows: 2

To get around this, type an apostrophe ( ' ) first:

    you type: '=1 + 1, cell shows: =1 + 1

Are my settings wrong am I not supposed to put =COUNTIF(A:A, A2) in the b column?

Re: Sum up the same email

    I found that i have to change it from =COUNTIF(A:A, A2) to =COUNTIF(A:A; A2)

I dont no why or if I can change it. Neither do I now if it's best to change it if possible or if I should keep it.

    Are my settings wrong
No, it's my fault. As Sandy says, it is your Regional Settings. I should have looked at your profile.

For you, the formula should be:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Re: Sum up the same email

    Thank you for the help!

I have another question aswell, not relating to my ordinary problem but it is for the same excel.

As I said i want this excel to make it easier to report spammails. Is it possible to write in the c-column "yes".
If yes is stated on the same row at e.g the test3 email, yes will be stated next to the other two rows with the test3 email aswell.

This is the last question on this excel i think. If this should be in antother thread I can change it <3

The problem with this idea is that a cell can have a value or a formula but not both. And you’d need a formula in the column to check if any of the other cells were marked as "yes". Pretty sure that monitoring the other email addresses/flags would cause circular reference errors.

You might be able to do this with VBA but that does change the environment.
