    Question Finding text

    Hi all,

I have tried and tried finding a solution, and maybe there are none. But here goes:

My problem is, that I in one sheet have a lot of data, and in another a lookup sheet. The lookup sheet includes the lookup value that is a short text. In the data sheet there is a column with a big text, and in this text the lookup values are. I now need to find the row in the lookup sheet. How can I do this? If it was the other way around it would be easy.

Fx. the text can be found in Column A in the data sheet, but in each cell the starting point of the short text differentiates.

    Do anyone have the solution?

    Best regards,
    Fjeld

    Welcome to the forum.

You could probably use INDEX/MATCH rather than VLOOKUP. Or, with 365, you can use FILTER.

Hi AliGW, sorry about that. I wasn't aware of this rule. Will make sure to either not to cross-forum post again, or to make sure to create a link.

    Re: Finding text

Can you manually add expected results to the sample workbook, please?

Maybe this is what you want:

    =LOOKUP(99999,SEARCH('Lookup sheet'!$A$2:$A$6,B2),'Lookup sheet'!$B$2:$B$6)

There is no match in the second row.

    Hi AliGW,

Thanks a lot. This works perfect. I have tried it on the full dataset and it works like intended.

Do I need to close the thread?
