rotate a list of names based on who took the last turn

Hi - I want to create a list of names, which stay in order, but rotate based on who was nest in line to be assigned a job so each person has to take a turn.

    So -

    Bob
    Jane
    Fred
    Carol
    Sue

Bob is allocated to go and do the shopping so he moves to the bottom of the list and everyone else moves up one.
I don't want to have to do it by adding a date because it may be that I allocated Bob to do the shopping Next Friday but then I have to get Jane to do the shopping short notice Tomorrow.

    Hope that makes sense

    Welcome to the forum.

Which version of Excel do you have? Update your profile, please.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook (yellow banner: HOW TO ATTACH YOUR SAMPLE WORKBOOK). Screenshots are of little practical use as we cannot manipulate them.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

Not sure how this will help as currently I do not have anything to show just a column with a list of names There is literally nothing else on the sheet at all
That's why I posted the question... I cannot find a version but I am on Windows 10 with a computer that is about 14 months old if that helps.> Sorry if I sound stupid but I am not a techie as if I was I would not need help

If you want to keep the previous lists also:

Please enter the names in B3 and down and try in C3 and copy to right and down:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Administrative Note:

Is your forum profile showing the version of Excel that you need this to work for?

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the version of Office (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent versions of Excel are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the release number in your profile (e.g. MS365 Version 2211). This is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Thanks.

The following is what I came up with taking into account Post #3 for the data:

Copy/paste the following code into a regular module & then you could create a button to run that code with a click of the button, or as an alternative, you could select Alt+F8 and then run it that way each time.

I am attaching a file that does the same thing as mentioned above.

In post #2 I asked you to MOCK UP what you want. I would not ask for something that was not necessary. You are the one asking for help ...

    You said this:

Bob is allocated to go and do the shopping so he moves to the bottom of the list and everyone else moves up one.
I don't want to have to do it by adding a date because it may be that I allocated Bob to do the shopping Next Friday but then I have to get Jane to do the shopping short notice Tomorrow.
What do you expect this to look like in the workbook? I cannot visualise what you actually want - please mock it up so that we know what we are aiming for.

I have also asked you (three times now) which version of Excel you are using and explained how to find out: this is important, so please do it now.

When you come to a forum asking for help, it's easy to forget that your helpers cannot see inside your head, so you have to help us to visualise what you want and to give us all the information we ask for (and to trust that we know what we are doing, too).

Re: rotate a list of names based on who took the last turn

PLease don;t SHOUT at me telling me to MOCK up - I did mock up what I need - a list of names, that when the person at the top of the list is assigned to a task they move to the bottom of the list and everyone moves up.
And Yes you did ask me three times but you know what - I was already in bed given that I work shifts .
Yes I did ask for help, and I thought that this forum would be a place to ask, as I expected it to be a place tolerant of those
of us who do not know.
I am so very sorry to have caused you all such trouble. I was mistaken as I thought that this was a forum when someone with little knowledge could ask and learn without being make to feel belittled.
Thank you to those who have tried to help, I appreciate it.

Re: rotate a list of names based on who took the last turn

There was no intention to belittle - merely to emphasise and clarify for someone who said they were new to all of this. I am sorry that you have been offended, but no offence was intended.

I did mock up what I need - a list of names, that when the person at the top of the list is assigned to a task they move to the bottom of the list and everyone moves up.
OK - so you want just the list of names? So how is Excel going to know when to rotate the list? There will need to be some input - where/what will this be?

Thank you to those who have tried to help, I appreciate it.
I am also trying to help you, but I need to know:

    1. Which version of Excel you are using - this will determine the solution offered.
    2. The answer to my question above.

EDIT: I've just seen your attachment. Please update your forum profile to Excel 365. Thanks.
