formula to ignore blank cells

hi, I have a sheet that I subtract start time from previous days end time. the problem occurs when the previous day is a rest day and therefore a blank cell. in the sheet attached my formula in column D is as such: =b5-c4.

so on my sheet there is no data for sat and sun and my next shift worked is on the 15/04/2024.
so I want the formula to read as: =b11-c8 (therefore ignoring blank cells)

I then have a separate formula in column E that converts to hours
