I would suggest you to go to Visual Basic Editor and build a custom function for it. Something like this
Press Alt +F11, insert module
Type in:
Function test(criteria)
If (criteria = "Good") Then test = 1
If (criteria = "Excellent") Then test = 2
if
if
if
if
if
if
if
End function.
Go back to Excel, type in =test("Good") and see the result
