delete unused columns and grey out the rest area

I want to delete unusued columns on the right of my data. I remember using
short cut keys to select unused columns and delete, which greys out the area
on the right. do you have any idea what I am talking about? Thanks

It doesn't grey them out, you would need to hide the columns for it to go
    all grey.
