My Datedif function only returns 0's in the cell what's wrong?

    My Datedif function only returns 0's in the cell what's wrong?

    My =Datedif("1999/12/1","2005/12/1","Y") function only returns 0's in the
    cell what could be the problem?
    Cell is formatted for numbers.

    Tools>options>transition uncheck "transition formula evaluation"
