columns reversed

How do I change the column format from Z - A to a - z?

data>sort>options>left to right

Tools | Options | International (tab)
Default direction...Left-to-right should be checked.

I found the solution in the formatting toolbar. The last icon is "sheet right
to left". How this got reset as the default I have no idea.
