Having Cell Color Change Automatically Based on Value

Hello - I am new to this board and not as advanced in excel as many of you, but I hope you can help me.

I have a spreadsheet that measures performance. I would like the cells in a column to be green if a certain value is exceeded, and red if it is not. Is this possible without having to mannually change the color in each cell? If so, can you give me specific instructions or refer me to where there are specific instructions on how to do this. Thanks.

What you're looking for is Conditional Formatting.

    Check out this site: http://www.contextures.com/tiptech.html

There are about 8 pages on conditional formatting with illustrations.

    Hi,
This also worked for me but I'm having a hard time figureing out how to count the cells that have changed. I have made a function to count cells based on color, but it seems that it doesn't pass this conditional format color into the function.

    thanks,

Usually, if you're summing, you do your sum on the items the conditional format is based on. ie. if the conditional format says the cell should be yellow if the value in it is equal to 2, you'd look for 2 when summing.

Well I had it counting a light blue which is #37. Maybe I should mess around and see if the conditional formatting changes the cells' color as well as it numeric property.
