    Count colored cells?

Is there any way to count the number of colored cells? For example, I need to flag a record when it has 1 red cell or 3 yellow cells.

    I am including data example.

    Thanks, Mary-Lou

    Hi,

I think you'll find an answer here.....

    http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/count-sum-cell-color.htm
    Rule 1: Never merge cells
    Rule 2: See rule 1

    Thanks, this is cool.

However, I tried this out, but it doesn't appear to work with cells that are color-filled by conditional formatting.

I tried it out by manually filling the cells with color and it worked ok, but how do I get around the conditional formatting? Any ideas?

    Good evening mlk

I don't thinkOldChippy's link will give you what you want. It is extremely difficult to identify a cells colour that has been conditionally formatted, as the ColorIndex (Excel's colour identifying number) remains unchanged - you have to attempt to detect the condition and work from there. You might want to look at Chip Pearson's pages for a solution :
