    Data Validation via Matching?

Instead of creating a drop down menu to pull data from another range of cells, can I have the data pulled up by matching? I.e., as a name is being typed, excel automatically matches it to names in the data validation area.

Try searching the forum for "match" and "index". There are lots of similar problems and answers here.

Can no one help me? I know this may seem like a basic thing to do for all the experts in here, but for me, it isn't.

All I know is that Excel will automatically match names when they're typed in the same column, but I don't know how to get that function to work when the data is located in a different column.

I don't think what you're asking for is possible.

Excel doesn't recognize what you type until you press enter.

The autocomplete function that is built in Excel is part of the Excel software itself.

I think you may be able to do something similar using listboxes or comboboxes (which are a sort of dropdowns as you mentioned earlier).
Where there is a will there are many ways.
