Any help appreciated to reduce wasted effort/time

    Hi, I’m new here.

    Basically my problem is linking.

I link cells from 1 spreadsheet (named CMF) to another sheet (named BAR) for each month.

But I have to change the description in each and every single cell on the BAR sheet each time the month ends, for example…

On the September BAR tab, I must change

    =‘August CMF’!c33

    TO this…

    =’September CMF’!c33

I must create new September sheets/tabs for both the CMF and BAR, as I cannot overwrite the August tabs with September data. So I’ll have September Bar, September CMF, August Bar, August CMF, and so forth. There are tons of cells to change, and manually changing and typing August to September is very time consuming and it tends to hurt your wrist when there are around 30 days and dozens of accounts.

Is there an easy way to do this? If I’m not making sense, please ask for more input from me. Also please remember I can’t overwrite any old data, as I am creating entirely new sheets with the same format…I just don’t want to manually change each cell to have the proper link. I’ve been doing it the past 2 months or so and I’ve had it.

Any help is appreciated and sorry for the long post!

Can you post a sample of your sheets in a zip file so we can see what your doing? We may be able to solve your dilema.

Okay I really had to cut down on the amount of accounts and data to make this look somewhat presentable.

    In this file I have:

    - 4 tabs... Sept 07, Sept 07 CMF, Aug 07, and Aug 07 CMF

First, enter data in the top gray cells of either Aug or Sept CMF tab. The same numbers then are transposed to the bottom of the page.

Then, that transposed data is displayed into the corresponding Aug 07 or Sept 07 tab.

My problem is this...there are tons of accounts with these linked cells, not just the two accounts that I've shown.

I need to figure out a way to change the linked cells in the Sept 07 tab. Right now they are using data from the Aug 07 CMF tab instead of the Sept 07 CMF tab as evidenced by an example like ='Aug 07 CMF'!C50 . Instead, it should be ='Sept 07 CMF'!C50

I need to replace Aug with Sept for tons of these things.

Is there an easy way besides manually typing and then dragging each specific little section of rows? Thanks for any help.

I'll repeat my question: why not Find (Aug) and Replace (Sept)?

You have shown a sheet without the september Bar sheet! So what wants changing. your choices are to have the formulas based on the indirect function and you can adjust the month bit accordinglly in one place, or replace as suggested in the other post august cmf with september cmf choosing formulas rather than values in the options box

I briefly glanced at your post and wanted to state this...now on to more reading...

    Aug 07 = August Bar

    Sept 07 = September Bar

Sorry. You just made my day. Didn't really know about that feature. Thank you.
