    New to pivot tables

Hello everyone. I'm trying to learn some things about pivot tables and need some assistance getting one that I've created to work the way I wanted. I’ve attached my excel file for you to look at in hopes of finding an easy answer for my questions.

I understand the basic use of the pivot table. However, I can’t get the pivot table to stay with average instead of count for each of the items. Atmosphere, Check-in, Technologist friendly and Procedure explained are all number items. I’d like to know the average for each facility and total average instead of the count for each facility and count total. I found a way under the pivot table field settings to select average. I’ve then saved it but every time I remove that component and then add it back in, it reverts back to counting instead of average. Is there anyway to keep it on average or am I stuck doing it manually each and every time?

My second question has to do with refreshing. We get customer survey cards in randomly. Some days we get 10 other days we get none. We would like to be able to enter them whenever they come in and have the pivot table automatically update each time. I tried selecting the entire column for the categories I want and that seems to work so that each time data is entered, it is ready to be used after it’s refreshed. However, I get a line called “blank” and that is because I have blank lines out there that it’s pulling from. Is there anyway to get rid of that? If not, then its ok, but my info would be cleaner if it was gone. Is there a way to remove the “blank” from the info it displays?

Those are my two basic questions. I’m open to suggestions on better ways to use the pivot table as well. I’ve not used pivot tables in years, so this is essentially all new to me again.

    Thanks,
    John
