Finding the first amount in a cell

    Hello.

I can use the following formula to let me know the last amount in a cell - LOOKUP(10^10,$W:$W), but how do I find the first amount in a cell? There is a Heading on the column titled "Balance."

    Balance
    $114.88
    $116.94
    $118.18
    $131.02

    The return should be $114.88.

    Thanks in advance.

    Try:

    =INDEX(A1:A10,MATCH(TRUE,ISNUMBER(A1:A10),0))

Where A1:A10 is the range to look in.

The formula must be confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER not just ENTER...you'll see { } brackets appear around the formula.

Note: You cannot use whole column references with this formula, e.g A:A is not allowed.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

NBVC - this worked perfectly. Thank you for your time.
