formulating Max Lookup(?)

Hey everyone,

I'm brand new, and I'm not really sure how to search for this, but here's what's going on. I'm trying to look up the max value for each day of the week. The data is entered daily, so the data is sorted by date, not day of week. What I need is a formula that will return the max value (column 2) of, say, all Mondays (column 1). I've been doing this by filtering the day of the week, then manually inputting the max, but I'd like a formula that does this so that the table which holds this data automatically updates when a new maximum value is input. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?



(I hope I'm explaining this correctly. It's clear in MY head, but it may be coming out all convoluted).
