    Copy Data from another worksheet

Hi Everyone.. I guess I have been using Excel for longer than I care to remember. I have a workbook with several worksheets. Data inputted into 1 of the worksheets is calculated and displayed in the other sheets and produces various reports.

No problems until yesterday. Then this... I type in the formula, using a previously unused cell, and no problems the data in the sheet I am refering to in the formula appears in this other worksheet.

HOWEVER !! and this is the bit I don't get, if I have to edit the formula, then I can find no way to get the data to display, it constantly shows just the forumula.

The worksheet I am copying from is named Day 1 and an example cell is AT4.

So in my other worksheet I enter the formula 'Day 1'!AT4 and if it the first time then it's OK.

By the way..... why do so many instruction show the worksheet being refered to as simply Day1 without the ' ' around it. I have many different worksheets and never been able to get them to accept the sheet name without the ' '

Thanks for your time...... I hope someone has an answer..

Excel 2003 on XP Pro. 36 worksheets in one workbook. There is one for each day of the week and 5 for various analysis reports.

Hmmm, instead of trying to enter the formula manually, start with entering = and then click on the tab of the worksheet where your cell of interest in, then on the cell itself. It should give you

Then look for any differences between that formula and the one you entered manually.

If there is a space in your sheet name, it'll put the ' around it.

HI Chemist B. Thanks for the reply, but still no success.

The cell I am copying from is a merged set of cells, with AT5 being the first .

When I click on the cell it gives me 'Day 1'!AT4:BE4. Tried several times with different sequence but still the same problem, and yet I can type the reference into an unused cell and it works OK.

Ahhh, the evils of merged cells. You should be able to manually modify that cell (going to the formula box and backspacing over the ":E5." Are you still having problems with the formula not working when you update it?

It almost looks like the cell is reverting to a TEXT format...Try changing the format of the cell to GENERAL, then adjusting your formula.
