How were those cells coloured.....manually or via conditional format....?
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Thats a good question,
I am currently trying to do this on cells with a manual background colour.
In the future I want to do it for conditional formatted cells. I gues this is easier?
Are both posisble?
To count manually coloured cells you will need a VBA user-defined function...
here's one: http://www.ozgrid.com/VBA/sum-count-cells-by-color.htm and you'll find another within this page: http://www.cpearson.com/excel/colors.aspx
To count conditionally formatted cells, you can apply similar logic to a countif/sumproduct formula to count the cells with that logic....
