How to add multiple items using lookup?

I've setup a formula using the vlookup to find a certain lookup point (different names) and then reference the value in the cell to the left. My problem is that I've now got the same lookup value but listed multiple times. What function can I use to search for a lookup value and then sum all of the values it locates in the cells to the left of the lookup value.? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi

    Try using SUMPRODUCT

    Along the lines of
    =sumproduct(--(b1:b100="myvalue"),(a1:a100))

I can't quite figure out how to take your formula and get it to work for my situation. The way my workbook it setup is that there are two sheets. The first is a data sheet with names in Column A and numbers in Column B. I want to then put a formula in my second sheet that finds all the times a name is mentioned and totals the value's in column B for each instance.

What I had setup was a vlookup formula that look like this:

    =VLOOKUP("ACCESSORIES",Sheet2!$A:$M,2,FALSE)

How can I apply the SUMPRODUCT formula to this? Thanks

    SUMIF should work for you:

    e.g

    =SUMIF(Sheet2!$A:$A,"ACCESSORIES",Sheet2!$B:$B)
Where there is a will there are many ways.
