VLOOKUP error when nesting within an IF statement

    Hi guys,

I made the mistake of pointing out that a process at work could be simplified a million times over using an excel spreadsheet, to calculate certain things on clients' accounts and then a mailmerge to write the letters... and then ended up being put in charge of the project. Doh!

Anyway... I've done all the hard work with the back end and I'd almost finished the front sheet for the mail merge when the final column all went to hell.

This is what I had and it worked fine (spaced for ease of reading):

The problem came when I realised that on occasions AS2 would contain the words "NO LIMIT" instead of a number. So I changed it to:

but it brought up an error saying that the vlookup under IF($AO2="LBF", was broken! Im so confused. I know its not the simplest of formulae to understand outside of context but I could really use a hand.

    Thanks.

Your formula could probably be replaced with:

Thank you so much for your help NBVC!

Not only did it fix my problem I also learned something about excel. I'd been looking for something like INDIRECT for days. You're an absolute gem.
