Copying a long formula to another workbook?

Apologies if this has already been posted (I'm sure it has) but I can't use the search function - gives me a fatal error!

It's hopefully a simple query, but I just can't figure it out. All I want to do is copy a formula from one workbook to another workbook that I have open - have tried just copy and paste (only get the result, no formula is copied) and have tried paste special, but there doesn't seem to be anything relevant on the list.

I'm sure there is a simple way of doing it, so hopefully someone nice can help me out!

Hi Helen

Sounds to me like you have two Excel applications open with a workbook in each - attempting to copy from one to the other will result in exactly what you are seeing.

Open both workbooks in the same Excel session, then you will be able to copy formulas only. (With one workbook open in Excel, go File>Open to open the other - this will ensure both are in the same session).
