    Evaluate String using function

    Hello Experts,

    I have a cell which contains a string e.g.

    "C:\Documents and Settings\Shreepad\Desktop\[Book2.xls]Sheet1'!$D$10"

How do i get excel to evaluate the above string so that it will get me the value in the cell D10 from mentioned file?

(I will get this string buy adding two strings)

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards

    Shree

You can use INDIRECT function, e.g. if your string is in A1 use

    =INDIRECT(A1)

INDIRECT, however requires the worksheet in question to be open. If that's a problem you could try downloading Morefunc add-in and using INDIRECT.EXT

Thank you for your reply. I had tried using indirect function without luck. Your post helped me understand why. ( File was not open).

In my application may be closed

Can you please elaborate on how to use additional plug in

Thanks once again for your help.

    Regards
