Using IF to assign text/cell color

How do I write a formula that will change the text to an assigned color based on cell contents?

That's CONDITIONAL FORMATTING, on the FORMAT menu.

Thank you, I did it, however what if I want an entire row conditionally set to a single cell?

    Inside Condition1 are two options:

    Cell value Is
    Formula Is

Select the entire row, then click Conditional Formatting: Formula Is: =$A$1=5 (or whatever your cell and trigger value happens to be)

Now the entire row will watch cell A1.
Select FORMULA IS and then put in the reference, for ins

Can you copy conditional formating? So i create it for a single cell then copy just the formating to other row/columns?

The $ symbols make the reference absolute. If you want to be able to use the FORMAT PAINTER to paint that conditional stuff, take the second $ symbol out.

    =$A1=5

Now it will copy properly to other rows.

Can I copy just the formating? And not other contents of the cell?

FORMAT PAINTER. Looks like a paintbrush on the toolbar.
